Die Fledermaus (the bat) is a falchion or long single edged blade with a sword hilt.
Patterned after a messer from Paulus Kal’s 15th century Fechtbuch (pp. 148-154) the distal
tapered blade of this falchion features a fully sharpened double clip point. The guard is
hand forged in a bat-wing motif of polished steel. The lightly fluted eight sided maple grip
is hand carved and burned in a floral pattern and darkened with a centuries old technique
using Aqua Fortis. Possessing excellent harmonics Die Fledermaus is a lively blade that
quivers in the hand.
